Do do run run again

Liam’s been at this running program for the past six weeks, and while I’ve some days been looking a little jealous of his runs and his commitment, I’ve been fine by hanging out at home, Sloughing on the internet. And of course I’ve been (and am) supportive of his running and commitment to the program – but I’ve felt fine about my training in my classes and the extra TRX I’m putting in at the moment, to not really bother getting into running myself.
-And I had that nasty experience with my knee getting all f***ed up after a run, a couple of months ago.

This saturday we somehow managed to get to Brucies for Thai boxing. Which was great – I always love a good thaibox training – especially now that my finger is fine. So had a blast, but also felt it was hard to go on the pads. I mean – of course I could do it for 5 or more rounds, if I had to. But it was tough and I felt my heartbeat in my throat.

'We're on a road to nowhere..and we're running!!'

‘We’re on a road to nowhere..and we’re running!!’

On the way home Liam said, he was happy we went thaiboxing after all. And he added, he felt really good about going on the pads, as he felt more in control of his heart rate (stamina) and could pick up or slow down the pace without getting out of breath. He noted, that it might come from all the running he’s been doing.

I thought about it and it makes sense. And I thought to myself, maybe I should try running too – with the program that is. (It’s a heart rate based program that ensures you don’t go 80% on all your runs and thereby burn out faster). So my mind was positive primed when Liam (yesterday) suggested that I join his program – and my goal is to see it this week out – and then decide from there, depending on knees and limbs.
There is 6 weeks left of the program and if all goes well after week 1, I’ll follow through the last 5.

Training update including past week:

Today (Monday): 6miles on 70%
Yesterday (Sunday): 10 miles 70-75%
Saturday: Muay Thai
Friday: Sprints with Liam (4x 800m + 2 miles jog + 1 mile 100s = 5.5 miles)
Thursday: 30 min TRX, 40 min. Circuit, FighterGirl Class
Wednesday: 1.5 hour Abs/’toning’/ Burpees
Tuesday: 20 min TRX, 20min Barbell ‘blast’, 20 min Core, 2 x FighterGirl Classes
Monday: Nothing

My diet is back to No Gluten – except I’m having a cheat day on saturday, where wheat & sugar is allowed. Needles to say, I’ve spent Saturday stuffing my head with chocolate stuff and a couple of mini pancakes and some Danish liquorice.
I’ve seem to be quite happy about this arrangement.

Lord of the flies

Well home from Austria, we found Liam’s basil plant covered with small flies. Small nasty things over populated the dirt and stems on the plant while we were gone. The whole pot seems alive like an ant nest. Cribling and crawling – it’s my living nightmare.

Before this, his plant was badly infested with lice (I saved it the last-minute with a soapy wash) – now there are flies ruling our kitchen. I’m not sure what the next disease to hit the basil would be. I’ve never met an indoor plant getting so abused before.
It’s gross and disgusting to look at. It’s like they hatch in the dirt or something. I moved my aloe to the bedroom, and just hope the flies won’t find their way in there, but them being flies and outnumbering us 1:1000, they might win in the end and infest every single pot of dirt in the house.

Since we got home, I’ve had also the pleasure of helping out in Deasys again – this time as a waitress. Friday and Sunday – both days really busy. I didn’t take any orders, but was merely the busboy of the restaurant: Cleaning tables – reset tables, polish silverware, fetched cold water and bread and occasionally helped taking food to the tables.
It was busy work, not overly hard thou. Being in the kitchen is harder I think, but like with my kitchen kuli job, I suspect that my waitress career has come to an end. A soup situation developed during Sunday lunch. And to make a longer story short, two patrons got the wrong soup by me. A mistake that shouldn’t happen in any restaurant. Thing was thou, it was either a case of bad hearing or the ‘banana’ case: Ofcourse I did ask the two older women, who was having what soup, but they either had a bad hearing or took one look at me, at decided they didn’t understand me (Banana case= Yellow on the outside, white on the inside). Now, it’s not necessarily an underlying racist action on their behalf. During the two days of work in the restaurant, I got asked if ‘the weather was cold compare to where I came from’ and if ‘I understood  what was being said’. First situation out of sheer, friendly curiosity – second incident out of mere suspicion (yes, believe me, one do learn to spot the difference!). The soup ladies – who know?! When I served the soups, they seemed happy and satisfied, what happened next is anyones guess.

Anyway, that was probably the end to my short, glorious restaurant career.

On the more sporty side of life, I finally got to see the inside of a muay thai gym in Cork. Saturday Liam and Brucie took me to Cork Thaiboxing, where I had the pleasure of being squazed on the pads, first by Brucie, then by Anthony. And finally ended up with a few rounds of clinch with a girl! And a couple of rounds of light sparring with Paul – one of their fighters. Very nice day!

Monday and Tuesday had me back to work at WF and KC. WF was amazing: 5 girls in for the KB class. We rocked the room (including 2x long cycle – Men’s style, I may add!) and afterwards a more than full Boxercise class with hardworking happy women. K2C Tuesday was – to be honest – a bit of a disappointment. Only 5 girls in – but they worked hard and dedicated + I kind of trained in with the class to even out the numbers, so it was almost worth the travel (1 hour drive). I wish WF had more of the same equipment as KC- then the classes there, would be much more fun stuff to do in class.

Wednesday: Muay Thai session at Brucies! Great stuff – easier padwork than normal (but yesterday that was fine!)

Today Thursday: Fly population multiplied by 1000’s – not sure about training plans. If any.. a run might be all. Liam is working, so I’m stuck on the countryside.

PS!! I haven’t forgot about the weekend challenges, but I’ve got no Internet connection these days, and won’t be able to get any for this coming weekend. Sorry! Hopefully next weekend will see something new and interesting for you guys. In the mean time – if you’re bored look in the ‘Weekend challenge’ page and select an old one and get to it!

Might be back on track??!!

I might be back on my training track!! Anyway, woke up and didn’t want to go to the gym. Went anyway and set the bar for 1hour on the treadmill (first long run in my new Asics shoes).

After getting on and feeling great for the first 20 min. I decided to go further than 1 hour – preferably 2 hours, or for as long as I could. After 50 min. right knee starting acting up a bit, and the last 10 min. became a battle between knees and right shin. As usual the treadmill stops after 60min. so, I took a short bathroom break and got some water as well. Jumped on the treadmill again to see, how far I could go after almost 2 weeks of little running.

Before I reached the 1k, left knee (backside, ligaments) started acting up, and despite how I changed my running style, it just kept getting worse. Ended up taking 3 one minute breaks for the next 3.8K – which made my run today a 10 mile – or 16K run. Not bad – but not happy either.
Also the shoes are eating on existing blisters on left foot.

Todays WO:
16K/ 10 Miles in 77.3 min
35 pull/ chin ups (3x 6, 2x 5 +7)
100 Abs
Stretch & back bridge

Am off to Womens Fitness later and am the lucky winner of 6 hours non-stop work, including two classes (1 Kettlebell, 1 boxercise).
Welcome back!!

Last detox day

Monday and last day in the Blessed Herbs detox colon cleansing.

Feeling a little better today, probably because I went to the gym and worked out a bit.

* 20 min on treadmill (11kph)
* 1x 20x 25kg FCT
* 1x 20x 30kg FCT
* 1x 20x 32.5kg FCT

* 2x 10 Hamstrings
* 2x 10 Push ups
* 2x 10 Saxons w/ 5kg

Just got told off by my friend Anders Nedergaard (www.kropogblog.dk) about the detox. Told me I’m loosing muscles and it was good for nothing, which I guess is partly correct, cause I frankly feel weaker and the body would tend to go into a catabolic state without carbs and protein. My reason for doing the detox, was my previous experience where I felt, I could see the results of the internal cleanse on the outside, cause my skin looked much healthier. Also, I think it would be a fault to underestimate the sense of accomplishment, that comes with this kind of fasting. Food – which I love and take for granted, all of a sudden not available for five days and it does take a mental effort as well as physiological to keep at it.
Anyway, I look forward to eat again, whether it will be tonight or tomorrow morning. (It will depend on 2nd training today: KB and Boxercise classes at Womens Fitness in Cork.)

Challenge today: Swings with the 16kg KB in class.

Lift up

I got my lift up on you tube. Form not the best, but as it was a PR I’m quite content with the lift.

Weekend didn’t hold that much training, but we did manage to get saturday thaiboxing down. Felt really good to hit and kick – but f*** those pads always makes me feel out of shape. It’s just a nagging feeling of always needing to be faster and harder, all the time. On every opportunity given. (I kind of feel, like I hear Kenneth, my first real fight coach in the back of my mind: ‘Faster Tania!! Faster, Faster, Faster!!).

Friday evening I enjoyed another trip to the gym:
1000m on C2 (4:35)
Squat:
5x 20kg
