So a few of my FighterGirls read the ‘Are you sexy enough’ blog and suggested I wrote a blog about how training makes you (them) feel: More happy and more energetic.
And I a more than happy to pick up the challenge, cause I know exactly what they are talking about – and there is too, a perfectly scientific explanation to this. (Apart from the girls obviously are feeling sexy enough 😉 haha).
Endorphins!! Endorphins is a chemical response in the brain, that releases on physical activity, on pain and stress situations. In relation to exercise, endorphins is not only, what makes your mood feel better after the class. It’s also responsible for you getting through with some of the harder parts of the class. Parts where you normally would feel too much pain to get through: Burpees could be an example.
Instead Endorphins and Willpower is seeing you through this. And you come out in the other end, feeling stronger and with a sense of accomplishment.
But what about the energy levels? Training and working out makes you spend a lot of energy (at least in my class). And yet, you still feel you have more energy when you leave – and often in the days to follow. Endorphins can give you a feeling of release, that can translate into feeling more energetic – and then there is of course the physiological aspect of training and working out:
You train to become stronger and fitter. The stronger your body are, the more it will be capable to handle: And the stronger and better you’ll feel in all areas of your life, simply because your increasing strength help makes everyday tasks easier. Stair climbing – no problem. Carrying stuff – no problem. Running for the bus – no problem (well.. depending on the bus driver). Shopping at a big sale, and have to make room for yourself: All of a sudden you feel those push ups (making your arms and upper body stronger) come into a whole new sense of use!!
So yes: You can think of training as an energy investment: You pay with a certain amount of energy – and get even more back! And the endorphins will make you happier in the process. (There is a reason why some Danish doctors is prescribing exercise as a treatment against depression!!)
And this doesn’t even cover the best of it (in my opinion)!! Besides endorphins and the effect of those – training – especially when it comes to Martial Arts – will give you a deep satisfaction of getting to know your body once more. You’ll learn how to control it by mastering kicks, punches and movements. With time and perseverance you’ll find, that the boundaries you set for yourself (I can’t do it!!), shatters and is overcome. You’ll feel strong in the process, as you go from barely touching the pads to actually trying to ‘kill’ them. In short: You’ll feel sexier! 😉
Ok! Enough of the sexy part! Just get in the gym! Get training and experience the endorphin release first hand: Feel alive, more happy and ready to take on the world! I wish you a good trip!!
