Day 76 – How do you move

Morning training in Mikenta!

Except for my poor elbow being beat up, morning training was a delight!

+ Ido Portale movements with Pernille. Pernille did Ido Portale’s movement camp in Singapore, and has generously offered to share a bit of all the stuff she learned. Today we tried 6 different ‘crawls’*, which were all super challenging: Working on balance, coordination and mooooovement. Really fun and exciting. Definitely going to continue with these and when I feel secure in them, I’ll try to pass it on.

Monday 12K
Tuesday Body toning class in Fresh Fitness Hvidovre + 5K
Wednesday Thaiboxing + Movement (sprints tonight)

6 ‘crawls’ – as best I can describe them:
**2x rolls – one ‘normal’ and one landing on the heels with open legs
*One crawl with only 1 hand/ 1 foot on the floor at the same time. Sounds easy, but you’ll have to think and coordinate to make it work
*Same crawl as above, but with push ups and partner setting the distance. (Partner showing where to set the next hand – when the hand lands, you do a push up. Move leg before hand at the movements).
*Open chest crawl: Yoga position with one foot and opposite hand forward. Other leg far back and other arm straight above head – Open
chest. Lift hind leg, set hand down as far forward as you can, turn sideways on first foot (which are already in the floor) – lift other knee to the chest  and put up other arm straight above head
*Frog crawl: Start in squat position, put your right hand out in front of your left knee, and follow up with your left hand (next to right). Jump to the left, by putting your weight on your arms, and jump with the right leg going in front of your body. Land with your left leg straight and right leg in squat. Lift your hands and get into the squat position again.

Day 77 – The Iron Prince

Watched part of the Ironman which took place in Copenhagen today. Was blown away by the performance by the top athletes and their accomplishments. It must feel amazing to finish off a 226 Kilometers Swim, Bike and Run race in a decent time (around the 8 hours for top 10 today), even in a grey, rainy Copenhagen (reminds me, we’re going back to Ireland soon). And then to top todays experience off: The Crown Prince of Denmark were among the Ironmen.

It might sound stupid, but somehow he made me proud to be Danish – to be a part of Denmark. The fact that he – the crown prince, who basically could sit back and do nothing for the rest of his life. As long as he travel and represents Denmark, without making any scandals or getting too drunk, he would have the love and respect of the Danish people. But he decided to do the Ironman, a decision that both demanded respect, but also underlined the way, the Danish people know him. He’s a special force navy seal and did the Sirius patruljen – so he is made from something special.
I can only admire, that a man like him, takes the time and the effort to train for the Ironman and complete it. I’m so happy that Liam and I was part of the crowd cheering him and the other Ironmen and women along the route.

What also made my national feeling glow today, is the fact, that Denmark is still a country where the Crown Prince of Denmark can swim, bike and run amongst the masses without being covered in bodyguards.
I don’t believe for a second that Denmark is some sort of fairy tale country or that we are the happiest people on earth! But the fact that the Crown Prince did the Ironman along the other athletes, made me proud of being Danish – or some sort of Danish anyway!
Ps. Yes! I skipped a few days blogging! It’s really hard, when there is nothing to say!

Day 78 – Danish TV

I’m flabbergasted: This summer spend in Denmark, has shown me one thing. I don’t miss having a tv. Especially a Danish one. Danish TV is all about silly dating shows, food, tattoos and men baking with quinoa. Ok last one is a commercial.
But still: Show after show with ‘ordinary people’, getting their 15minutes of fame, doing ordinary stupid things people do, when they’re drunk, horny or upset.
It’s crazy in a way, we live in a time in the world, where this is what most people growing up aspire to be.

Growing up 200 years ago, we – or the male population at least – would aspire to get their ‘life education’ by travelling abroad and experience life abroad for a while. Living in different cultures – learning from them to bring back the knowledge and experience. And yes – of course maybe to flaunt their newly found experiences and fashions picked up abroad, home with all the people, who couldn’t travel themselves.

Day 79 – Joy!

Well – I’m actually a few days late. I know!! (last entry is from Saturday and today is Tuesday). Once again I ran out of internet and didn’t get around to it, until today. So I’m just gonna pick up the puck from where I left it – even I know, I’m probably about 5 days behind at this point! (My appologies, if you’re following the 100days challenge).

Lot’s of joy this morning! First time in 2 weeks, I made it to Mikenta’s morning class. It was really good, with headcoach and owner Brian Tallerik as the captain. Lot’s of padwork, followed by 4 rounds of bagwork. Worked with a very young girl (Anna) and had a good time. I’ve really come to love Brian’s classes, as I always seem to be learning a bit new and get inspired to better myself, and ofcourse, as always in the back of my mind: I’m thinking of what and how to bring it back to my girls in Ireland.

Also joyous: I got more internet pay time!

And last joy but not least: I got a Cross training class tonight in Fresh Fitness
I really look forward to teach a class again and I’m pretty sure, it’ll be a good class. Have planned 3 rounds with various exercises of different difficulties and challenges. But!! The best plans can easily change when it comes to classes; more people need more stations – less people might benefit from following each other. We’ll see!

Day 80 – Bad training/ Bad experience

There is usually not such a thing as bad training in my vocabulary. And I don’t recall ever walking out on one in all my years as active: From handball playing kid to Taekwondo, kickbox etc. But today I lost my cool and left the scene, before the fun even began.

Once again we were in Butchers Fight Gym- today for a sparring session. I’d actually looked forward for this, cause I have an interview coming up later, and I thought starting the day with a good training, would be just the right thing. Training muay thai and/ or sparring usually lift my spirit like nothing else, and it’s the biggest love of my life.

Under other circumstances it might have been the best decision ever – going for this morning class or in another gym like Mikenta or Siam it surely would have been fine. Unfortunately for me BFG is full of beginners and once again, I get paired up with a big guy, who had no control over his body. He just went beserk on me. I tried to answer back, but he was too big and too powerful – and I would probably have left with a black eye and loose teeth, had I stayed. Normally I would have biting my teeth and just get it over with, but I just had enough today – I threw down my gloves and left the gym. For the first time ever!!

I’m sick and tired of function as a freaking punching bag for guys who are +20kg bigger than me. Who have no control and no experience and are basically just out to kill you. And this is not the first time, this has happened to me in that gym. Not the same guy – but same story.
Some in-experienced guy who thinks he’s Bruce Lee, who have no control over his power or his limbs.

Sure enough he comes out afterwards with some lame comment, that he only went 30-40%, which made me even angrier, cause it was so clear he didn’t take any responsibilty and just trying to pretend it was me being to ‘fragile’ or too ‘female’. I watched him sparre with two other guys and the exact same thing happend: He went all crazy on them, so they had to retaliate. At least he got some huge blows from someone – but f*** it. Karma or no Karma – He just ruined my whole saturday!

I’m really fed up sparring with these guys!

Day 81 – Do you need to love or be loved?

Met up with an old friend the other day, who put down her gloves to pursue the world of yoga. And just as her adventures with muay thai, she grabbed yoga with both hands. Moved to India for 6 months to study, live and breathe yoga – and when we met, she said this about relationships: ‘The best balance is when someone who needs to love, finds together with someone who need to be loved’.

If you think about it, it can make perfect sense. There is a giver and a taker. Nothing and no one is 100% one thing of course. The giver needs to be loved too – but maybe not as much, as the person who needs to be loved. Likewise the person who needs to be loved, will also love the giver – at least in my world. I can’t picture two people staying together for a long time without any love between them.

Would this also explain if one person feel ‘too good’ for the other person , and therefore holding back on committing?

I guess if relationship could be had with yourself, it would be more simple. Anyways.. yoga thoughts for thought!

Day 82 – Do you train when you’re injured?

A simple question – do you train, when you’re injured?

Depending on the injury and the sport – it’s sometimes possible to go training with minor injuries. For my sport – thaiboxing, I’ve occasionally come to the gym, and not been able to train 100%. In those cases, I’ve always told the instructor, and when I had my first wrist problems, I just went on the bag instead of partnering up. (Holding pads for someone else was in most cases impossible if my wrist was to get better).

I don’t think, I ever encountered any problems coming to class on those occasions. Getting small injuries is a part of the game when you’re training hard and often – and for me, the answer have often been to keep training, but smarter and lighter. That way I’ve been able to keep my fitness, polish technique and same time nurture my injury.

This would not be suitable for all injuries or all sports – but for me this has worked in the past. My reason for this blog however, was a situation that occurred in the gym last night (where I was supposed to write this blog). My trainer got fed up with a guy, who constantly come to training with injuries, and always go: ‘I can’t do this and that’. I think they had a few exchanges of words, which I didn’t hear. But suddenly, I hear my kru basically asking the guy not to come back unless he could do the full class. As he (my kru) thinks, its unfair for the injured guys partner, that he would skip f.ex. holding pads or doing other work.
