Day 71 – The first time

Two days ago, I took 4 of my regular and one of my new girls to a ‘real gym’, and let them sparre each other (not the new girl). I’ve been super excited for this event, since we started to plan it, but on the other hand, I was also quite nervous.

I known the girls for a long time now. One of them almost a year. So I know they’re tough and often gives everything they got during training – but how they react, when they tried to hit one another? I had no idea.  Well, I did have an idea – cause we’re all girls. And most girls, unlike guys – perceive sparring with a great amount of caution and respect – and a bit hesitation. Where as guys sees sparring as just another very physical state of competing with each other, and often throws down, without any hesitation. Girls seem to take a small step at the time and offering a lot of apologies the first many times they hit someone.

My girls were great! They jumped in, and even they were holding back, you could tell, that they wanted to try it. Yet – ofcourse feeling a little insecure and new at it – but everyone loved it. No one cried, no one got scared. Of course I had 2 first rounds, with limited action: First round f.ex. only punch with left hand, right hand serve as guard.
So I think, it was a good way to introduce them to contact. A bit more controlled, with a keen focus on protection at the same time.

I still remember my first sparring. I finally was allowed to sparre, but got send in, with an experienced girl, who – as far as I recall, just wanted to kill me. lol. And it was all out. Legs and hands – kicks and punches – everything, with the trainer enthusiastic coaching the other girl. I remember, we ‘ran around a lot’ and finally I hit her hard on the nose, and she started crying. And that was it. No more sparring. The trainer never said anything to me. I switched gym shortly after that!

Past three weeks, I’ve 2-3 weight sessions pr. week. (Legs only)
2 Swim sessions pr week (skipped  a week)
2 x FighterGirl classes a week
..And a run today, in the sun!

Happy Valentines day

I’m still alive and kicking here in Ireland, despite the weather and the public transport system continuously trying to get me down. But I’ve been crazy busy the past few weeks. Since I started working with MiFitness and CIT, I’m often doing classes both morning and evening, and its left me really ‘to tired to blog’ – between everything else that’s going on.

Like this week a friend of mine from Denmark (Ninna) have visited, and it’s been good, but sure a little stressful. For her as well. I love working with MiFitness, they are really great guys (Brenda and Conor), but some days it’s tough, to not work 8 hours straight – but here and there, drizzled all out over the course of a day.

For my training,  a lot of it goes on in the many classes I’ve started to teach: Burn and Tone, 20:20:20, Abs Blast, Circuit and Kettlebells. For The FighterGirls and the new morning boxercise class, I don’t do much: just demonstrating and sorting kick and punches out. (No kicks in Boxercise). MiFitness embraced The FighterGirl concept, which is so cool (I really love them for this!)! The members seem to love it and I really enjoy teaching my kicks and tricks to more corkian ladies.

However due to Irish public transport or lack of the same, I am actually picking up weights again. To be on work on time, I have to get there an hour earlier: So I might as well use the gym.

Wrist, elbow and now finger all are ‘work-able’, which unfortunately doesn’t mean good. So I’m slowly picking up strength again, and trying new stuff, since the gym carries cables, leg press and hamstring curl. Btw. I love the hamstring curl!

I don’t have enough numbers, but will work on getting my blogging on again, and start posting some numbers!

Anyways, Happy Valentines day, pancake day and ash wednesday-day. For me it’s all the same: It’s GYM Day every day!! 😉

Girls rockin’ it at ABC

Tuesday again, and once again my two 30 minute classes rock. First 30 minutes, as usual pure ‘toning’ class – and even my class is different from other ‘toning’ classes in Fitness.dk, the girls buy into it, and my guess is they like it. Using lots of Ross Enamait inspired drills, the ladies get out of their usual comfort zone and get down with the more hardcore drills. I think it’s so awesome the girls are into this – and it warms my fighter heart.

‘Toning class’:
* Warm up: walk outs, push ups
Drills x 2
* 20 Squats with weights and ball btw knees (tone inner thigh)
* 20 Saxon Sidebends w weight
* 20 Lunges w weight
* 20 Sidetwists w weight
* 3 x 20 Russian sidetwist
End: 2 minute Plank

Second class is an all abb/ back class. Most drills are done with the big ball. Cool class as well, but not as innovative as the toning class. I should work on improving drills for this class.  Abs/ Back ended up with Plank: 2 minute straight, 1 minute each side.

Third class was boxing – so much fun and a great warm up with GPP #4 – only 4 sets thou:
3 minute sets/ 45 sec break btw sets
* Burpees 30 sec
* Jumping jacks 30 sec
* Split jumps 30 sec
* Burpees 30 sec
* Jumping jacks 30 sec
* Squats/ push ups 30 sec

I felt great today. Lots of energy. And after that – I just lined up the circle , watched time and tried to make them work a little harder. Class ended with a great 3 minute challenge.

So did get a little training done in between the teaching – and it felt great, but I also had yesterday off. Liam is back, which my heart both dances and cries about. Ofcourse Im overly happy to be with him again, be in his arms – which is the best place in the world – and on the same note, my heart cries for him, as he came back, because he broke his hand again. We both thought it was good, since he’s been training here for about 3 months without any problems – but about a week out in Thailand, and he hits a hard head, and the bone breaks same place. If I could, I would change bones with him. I would rather had him stayed and fulfill his dreams, than a broken hand and shattered dream.
But I’m sure, it will sort out – we will get that happy ending. I can’t imagine otherwise with my strong warrior by my side.

Weekend messin’ bout

It’s saturday – and I spend most of the daylight inside gyms, even the weather was wonderfull today. Clear blue sky and sunshine. Cold and fresh air. Typical Denmark in March. First of, we – Liam & I went to Siam Muay Thai Gym, to do some training on our own. Saturday the gym’s open, but no instructor – so it’s all about pushing yourself and get to it. Some people always avoid the open gyms, but me – I always liked training on my own, so the Saturdays suits me fine. And having my bf there, just made me push it a bit more, so we got to do a great work out together.

Siam Muay Thai:
* 10 minutes skipping
* 2 rounds of shadowbox (1 round w/ 2.5 kg db weight)
* 5 rd bagwork (10 push ups in beg. of the last 3 rds)

End of session: Time for the R-bible – Core # 4:
* 12 Evil Wheel roll outs (from knees) (I did 14)
* 10 Russian Side twist (each side) ( 12)
* 10 Crunches (High tension/ slow) (15)
* 12 Supermans (15)
* High rep chinnies ( 40)

Ended session 300 knees (hard work for both legs and arms – think rowing machine), and 200 teeps. And an additional 1 minute back bridge. BF did 2 min front and back (he always have to show off 😉 Hahahaha)

Was a great short session, that left me a little exhausted and arms even more tender from Fridays training. (Which for my part consisted of 2 x 10 minutes run, 400 knees, 3 min plank and a little more.) Especially the shadowbox rd with the db, took its toll on the arms.

Saturday afternoon training was at my second, and so far last ‘Girls Fight Club’ event in Fitness.dk. I had a 90 minute class, girls only. Not so many shoved – compared to the 10 people that’s been on waiting list, but hey, its saturday, so what do you do?? Anyway, It was a good class! We started out by a 3 set homemade GPP:
* Jumping jacks 30 sec
* Jumping split jacks 30 sec
* burpees 30 sec
* Jumping jacks 30 sec
* Push ups
* Knee bends
After last Girls Fight Club, where I lost 5 girls during the warm up round (GPP # 5 sets), I was forced to revise the warm up program to a milder version. And the girls today ate it raw. They were great – but! No one likes the burpees. (Go figure.. haha) We ended the session with 3 planks: 1 normal (for 1½ minute), and 2 sides (each 1 minute).

Tomorrow is rest day, but we’ll do a little sprinting.
