Day 73 – Back in the rain

For some reason it always has to rain in Ireland. One way or another.
Today its literally been pouring down all morning and noon.  The emotional rain drops… where do I begin?

We moved into a new student house, that’s really filthy and disgusting. Like pulling out a drawer and get sticky fingers disgusting. I’ve spent the afternoon yesterday trying to clean up a bit in the kitchen and the first night vacuuming the floor in our room. Thou, the old vacuum mostly seemed to push the dirt around.

I also came back to my FighterGirl classes, which I had really missed this summer. So was looking forward to see the girls again. Unfortunately not that mutual, as only a couple came back the first week. (But super happy to see them of course!). Also the instructor who’ve been covering for me, decided to set up his own thaiboxing classes in the same gym. I suggested he could make it a mens only class, so we wouldn’t be competing with each other, but he refused. So am very disappointed in both him and the gym! Same thing happened last summer, where I had a guy covering my classes during summer. When I came back, he wouldn’t give them back.
Irish people seem eager enough to help, just to stab you in back, at first given opportunity!

On the bright side, it has been nice to see the two friends I’ve made over here. They both look great and it’s been good to catch up.

My own situation seems a little bleak and dark at the moment, and it’s been frustrating to come home to, but on the other hand, I guess this gives me a push to pursue other avenues of work and things to spend my time on, while in Cork.

Training past week:
Saturday: 8K run + Ocean swim
Friday: Ocean Swim
Thursday: FighterGirl Class
Wednesday: Ocean Swim
Tuesday: FighterGirl Class

When life gives you lemons

What do you do? Throw them back or at someone else?
Hide and seek cover? Or make lemonade?

I don’t know what to do anymore.

First time since I’ve been in Ireland (over 1 year), the boyfriend and I go out.
First two hours is alright, but then out of the blue (after a lot of alcohol), he explodes on me.
Not really what you want for a first night out together with your bf and his friends.

I don’t really feel so Christmassy anymore, so my plan is to stay by myself in Cork. The last two weeks,
I’ve heard enough to make my ears fall of, due to him stressing about exams. Tonight was supposed to
be a joyful night, but instead I got a bucket of lemons (nice word for shit!) on top of me – In the night club.
Really feel life is too short for this. Can’t feed me lemon every day and expect me to make lemonade.
I’m not a fucking lemonade machine.

Wow.. I think this is one of my most personal blogs!

My last class with The FighterGirls Club was awesome, except for I forgot the Kodak moment. Zumba lady (next class) rushed us, cause we were 2 minutes over time, so completely forgot to take a photo of the girls with their Christmas hats.
But my girl rocked it and pushed out more burpees than ever before!
I’m so proud!!

NYC Blues

Got myself a good ol’ NYC Blues today. It comes every now and then, and reminds me of life in different places,  New York City in particular.
And I miss that feeling of walking down Fifth Avenue, with music pumping in the earphones, people stressing by, face in the sun and just feeling like a part of the big, big apple.

Anyway… Cork and Ireland is nice too 😉 (just different).
I was supposed to go home to Denmark this weekend, but had to change a flight and couldn’t get back in time for work, without it costing a fortune. (Damn* you airlinbes). So I’ll be missing seeing my girlfriends, which I’m a little sad about, might be a contributing factor to my blue state of mind today.

A little down from yesterdays gym visit:
2000m C2 (1000m sprint 2:03, 1000m alternate: 100/400/200/300)
2x 5x 15kg C&J
2x 5x 25kg C&J
2x 5x 30kg C&J

Stretch..

Not having the best gym days for the moment. But knows, I’m gonna turn it around.. keep hanging in there! Life is nothing  but adventure!

What I did on my friday

Main event - Strikeforce 5.12.2010

Life is a funny size. Yesterday was a low – and a high.
To start with the high! Did the first StrikeForce show on Eurosport 2 (Danish TV). Fights were mostly awesome, except for the first one, which I thought should have ended in the second round. Then – one could argue, that Benji Radach (Radai) returned for a small piece of glory in the third – but there was substantial long moments in the first and second round of the fights, where he didn’t defend himself actively (or very intelligent – he turtle up).

Rest of the fights were awesome, and I got really cheering over Paul Daleys KO over Scott Smith. It was beautiful!  Even it would have been fun with a reprise of the Smith vs Sell fight. And Dan Henderson showed that 10 years waiting for a rematch doesn’t necessarily changes the outcome. Once again he beat Babalu Sobral. Peeew…
So that was the high of the day. My low – well, one of the precious lessons I’m learning in this life, is if you put your nose out there – you might get it beaten. If you eat too much – you get fat – and if you trust someone with your heart – you set out for misery (maybe). Given your heart up can set you up for failure, cause it leaves you so vulnerable.  If you trust someone to have your back, you might end up getting beat up…

Or – when your (socall) best friend is choosing to be friends with a man who calls you – among other demeaning things – a racist. A stupid, ignorant man, you could think yes. But also a man – whom of a lot of people I know – should keep himself too good to use the R-word (he’s arab and muslim!). I got annoyed and bothered by him insulting me like that, because I know, that he had encountered a lot of obstacles in the Danish society due to his nationality and religion – and I would never use his origins, religion or looks back on him. But he chose to attack me that way. Totally unfounded btw. as the reason for his attack was a result of his paranoia, rather than reality. So for no reason – and with no right, he calls me a racist. And it annoys me, that he doesn’t hold himself too good to be so low. He has no idea, what its like to be an asian woman in Denmark. Not only the generic difference – but struggling with the battle of sexes as well. It was a low blow by him, not to have any empathy at all to view the world from others pow.

But hurt – no it didn’t.  Hurt was applied from the person I thought had my back – from my friend, who I thought would stick up for me. The people we trust. The ones who supposed to have our back and stand up for us, when the world is unfair. But maybe loyalty is too much to ask – all one have – is oneself?

Return to the blog

On a lazy snow filled sunday, not much else to do than catch up on whats been a trusted training and travelling diary: My blog.

Malik and me at the afterparty (and Maliks victory)

Last weekend was awesome! Did Rumble of the Kings for Canal 2+ Sporten in Stockholm. Same time I got to do commentary my first two MMA matches! Big fun!! And big men!! Got my pic taken with Bob Sapp, haha. Its like – you kind of have to.. now he was there.
Too bad however he lost his heart in fighting. So obvious its just business for him now. But have to give him – he’s entertaining and know exactly what the media wants!

The wonderful Sana and I

Mr Sapp & me

Mr Sapp & me

Also got to hang with my wonderful friend Sana. One of the strong, fine women I know. She was brilliant company – just too bad we didn’t get access pass for her aswell. Then we could have get lost in the arena together.
– And got to meet up with peeps: Nathalie, Johan, Malik and Peyman! So fu**** great!! Haven’t seen these guys for about 2 years. Too bad Ole was injured.. would have loved to meet him too.

Was a little disappointed about commentating from a small booth, as I had been running around to find a proper ringside dress.. however.. it was quite relaxing and un-stressfull. Just hope next time it be different.
After the show we went to the hotel – and from there to afterparty! Got to practise my moves with Johan. Sana wasn’t feeling the rhythm unfortunately – but that’s how it is sometimes.

And yesterday I got even more practice: Julefrokost with Fitness.dk. Every dane know what I’m talking about reg. Julefrokost. And it was exactly like that! Freakin’ Awesome Julefrokost.
Just what I needed after a month of…. bs! Sat with ABC crew – and they were just a happy bunch – and luckily a dancing bunch!! And.. a shout to all the dancing fitnisser I danced with.. You guys rock!

But in short: Weather changed for snow. I’m in Copenhagen – and I picked up training again this past monday. Life is returning to normal, and I’m launching  my long-term project within these next few weeks – and hopefully also got a new connection in Sweden that might turn out to be AWESOME!!
A lot of new prospects, projects and ideas are floating – and it’s just about working for the moment and grabbing it.

More of this later as the news hopefully will start to tick in.

To pick it up again: A slow recap of my training week. This time including a PR in pull ups!

Monday: Siam (muay thai)
Tueday: Mikenta w/ my friend Pernille. (muay thai), Fitness.dk (teaching classes – YAY!!)

First dance is for the ladies

Did my first dance in front of the dance class tonight. Went somewhat ok… considered I usually teach without a microfone, am a fighter – not a dancer and just learning the choreography and beat count – I guess it wasn’t that bad. But there’s definitely room for improvement 😉
But got some nice feedback, which made me happy and a little optimistic

Uh – nice music from the dance class btw:

This morning was spend boxing at Johnny De Lima – my great boxing coach! Felt wonderful to hit something again, just a little disappointed on the no sparring – but on the other hand, haven’t done any sparring in a month or more, so am a little rusty.

Spoke to an old friend today, it’s so funny – friends are a weird concept. We all have at least a couple of hundreds on Facebook and Myspace – but how many friends do you really have? When it comes down to it, when the shit hits the fan – how many people, do actually have your back?

I got fewer, than I thought – but my friend, whom I spoke to today, he’s one of those few ones, whom I would actually put my trust in. Feel very blessed to have a man like that in my life, and to be honest, I rather have just me few – but real friends, instead of all the people, who tell you, what you wanna hear, but then do the opposite (or not caring) in their actions. Actions speak louder than words, and it’s so easy just to say ‘Im sorry’, ‘Im your friend’, ‘you can trust me’ or ‘yes that person treated you bad’  – it’s much harder to put action behind those words.
– That what defines true friends for me… the people who will actually put actions behind their words. I know, I failed myself in the past – my college friend, I blew her off way to many times – and that’s why, I really try my best now.

Anyway – tomorrow is double up on Eurosport: SportsAccord Combat Games and Fight Club!

Can’t ask for a better thursday than this!

New gym tricks

Besides being a day of heartbreak, yesterday was also the day, where I got to train with Anders Fabricius Nedergaard again. He’s also one of the masterminds behind ‘Kropogkraft.dk’ and he knows a lot about functional weight training. He’s the sort of guy, who all athletes should have behind them. So no doubt, I felt very lucky to sneak in on a training session with him.

So what new, did I learn?:

Well for starters, I got my dead lift sorted out. And then Anders told me about the benefits from rotation and stabilization drills.

Did one, which could best be characterized as a straight, half TGU. DB or KB up in one arm straight – and then sit up straight. Weight above head. Will introduce it to my class next week.

Also a push through with barbel – a sort of straight FCT. Works on stabilizing core and push effect – which can be transferred into the same movement as punching.

Last new thing was a variety of one arm push up. In order to get the best from this drill, its important that my wrist gets better (that’s a obvoius) – and then to hold the body straight, instead of compensating by twisting the torso.

Also managed to throw in a small, but fast paced run. Training never fails… when everything else does.. trainings here..

Programme w Anders:

OH Squats: 2 x 10 x 20k
Deadlift: 2x 4x 30Kg
2x 4x 40Kg
4x 4x 50Kg
4x 4x 55Kg

Straight ½TGU:
8 x 4x 8Kg

Straight FCT:
4x 4x 20Kg
6x 4x 25kg
4x 4x 30Kg

One arm push up straight/ against wall:
6x 4

Usefull notes: Keep reps around 4 and sets around 6 – 8

Wrote my heart out, still waiting to be read

I still haven’t sent my letter about love…
